Magic Moon - MM project

Hello there! Let me first say this project was nothing like I envisioned. I thought I was going to make a "night sky". Apparently, that is not how it went. I guess I need to practice with those colors some more. So, the project turned out much lighter, delicate and feminine.

I love it!

Even though most of it is hidden, take your time with your bases. It's your foundation for everything else. I distressed the base with purples and blues and embossed lettering. I kept going with the colors until I was satisfied with the intensity.

Mixed media is all about "mixing" different types of media. This piece has waxes, embossing powders, acrylic paint, moulds and chipboards. The trick is to blend them in a way that is pleasing to your eye. Also, sometimes it's about what is in your stash. Do I emboss the clock or do I paint it? Well, that is entirely based on what you already own!

I love layering! It's all about complimenting the pieces around one piece and not letting anything else distract from the main piece. In this case, the dragonfly. The second main attraction is the harpsichord. Although it is slightly hidden, it peeps enough to let you know to pay attention to it.

For feminine pieces, I love adding pearls and shimmering stuff to my work. I chose white pearl wax instead of glitter. But use what is in your stash to make it your own.

Mixed Media - All About Spring

Hello everyone! Here is my Spring project for 2022. I wanted this to display the riot of colors that a lovely spring garden can hold. Especially if garden was tended by me  . . . cause I'm not much of a gardener.

Sprapaholics has the best spring garden boots in their chipboard stash and I just loved using it here. Imitating spring, I used several types of textures from various places in my stash, including Renea Bouquets beautiful board, 49 and market flowers, spongy moss, and more!

Thanks for stopping by today!!

The base is a corkboard cutting board I found in Home Goods. The texture and design is perfect to use in MM projects (I found it on sale).

The paper leaves were embossed using Sunrise Salmon Gold and Beaucoup Mint. I'm not sure why I felt the need to stick a time piece on this project, but there it is.

The chipboard boots were embossed with Bratwurst Brown and Stampendous' Seasonings. I added a little extra distressing using gesso.

There are hints of molds in this piece that have a more "watercolor" look. I wanted the texture, but knew the boots were the main attraction. So the moulds add dimension and interest without taking your eyes away from the main attraction.

I've been saving this spongy moss in my stash for a spring project. I thought it really made a wonderful barrier between the two sides of the piece.

THANKS FOR STOPPING BY TODAY!

Mixed Media Canvas - Make Nice Things

I think I'm in love with this color scheme and style. I come back to it over and over. A wood theme mixed with "fall" like colors catches my eye every day of the week. I try many different techniques and color schemes, but this one is by far my absolute favorite.

Without further ado, here is my project, completely inspired by the photo above. I hope you are inspired too. Supply list is below.

I'm always on the prowl for interesting shapes and textures that I can use as a canvas for mixed media projects. The base is one of three cutting boards I found at Home Goods (on sale). That's right . . . a "cutting board".
Even though I essentially made this one up in my head, it came together beautifully using
techniques I've picked up in the last couple years.

I knew I wanted to use teal on my leaf fillers, but didn't want "perfection". Then I remembered my distressed embossed powder. It's the only one I have but, really, you only need one or two distressed colors in your stash.

I knew I wanted to create a distinct border between the dark and light. Art Stones to the rescue! Get out a plastic cup, add art stones of your choice and size (I did all three), add soft gloss gel, color and finally I added black gesso cause the mix was too gray.

I love tucking little charms into my pieces. They are never the main focus, but rather for anyone to find them if they are truly looking. I almost always add chipboard letters to my pieces as well. It's an easy and cheap way to add "extra life" to your pieces.

Thanks for stopping by today!!!

Mixed Media - Altered Sleigh

I want to first thank Olga Ravenskaya for her inspiring video "altered wooden piece". There is always a point where I follow videos very closely and then veer off on my own.

Earlier this year, I received an altered wooden box from Toni Burks, aka "Little Black Dress", in an exchange group filled with wonderful goodies!! I used a bunch of those goodies on this piece as well. Thank you so much Toni!

Finally, to those of you in the U.S. and close to a Target . . . go shop at the little "dollar" section up front when the seasons/holidays change. You will find wonderful things to alter in that section. This year I found a sleigh and wooden door (previous blog post). I've snatched up quite a few for upcoming, yearly projects, once they were 1/2 off of course.

Without further ado ... here is my latest piece!!
