Mixed Media: Dwell In Possibility

Hello and welcome! Today I would like to share my latest piece made for April's challenge at Lindy's Stamp Gang.

I was hugely inspired by Olga Ravenskaya's piece made last year and Cindy W's piece made for this month's color challenge at Lindy's Stamp Gang.

I had to order the moon and stars Prima mold from Ebay because no one can seem to keep it in stock, it's so widely popular!! Anyway, I had fun with the creative process of combining all the various elements for this piece.

First part of this process was gesso . . . followed by crackle paste. I then "smooshed" the Tapestry

stencil over the crackle in various places. I then used glitter on the wet crackle paste and set aside to dry.

I worked on my embellishments next. I used Bonjour Butter EP on most of my mold pieces, 

but saved using mint and teal on my moon face.

For my CE chipboard pieces, I gessoed, followed by embossing powders 

Madonna Robe Blue Gold and Cleopatra's Copper.

The background was sprayed using C'est la vie Cerise, Merci Beacoup Mint and Tilt-a-wheel Teal. There are small touches of Bonjour Butter spray all around for dimension and interest. I finished the piece up by combining mint and teal with art stones and spreading that all over.

I did add splashes of white but that is a bit hard to see for some reason.

Altered Frame - THINK OUTSIDE OF THE BOX

I am inspired by many sources, especially More than Words, Lindy's Stamp Gang, and the Finnabair design team. I do gravitate towards process videos by Nadya Drozdova, Gabrielle Pollaco, and Olga Bielska. However, I don't quite have the stash these ladies have to work with so I must get creative and work with what I do have. Practice, practice, practice . . . right?

I have been following the challenge blog More than Words for quite some time. I have slowly learned to just play with my art supplies and make my efficient side of my personality take a coffee break. This month's challenge with More than Words is absolute no brainer for me. I could make 20 projects from this challenge off the top of my head. I have two successful book clubs, one of them called Drink n' Dragons. It's all about fantasy, magic, intelligent (hulky) men and strong (kick-ass) women. One of our favorite characters is . . . dragons.

I confess, I found it a bit amusing that this challenge talks about fairies and butterflies. But dragons have wings too, cause without them they are just overgrown lizards.

Brads, old flowers, layers of Creative Embellishments chipboard and trinkets in my stash

all make up this delicious corner!

I just love the quotes to be found by 7 Dots Studio! I painted the dragon separately from

the rest of the piece.

Using my small stencils, I did manage to stencil the background with modeling paste

to add extra effect to the frame.

I did not have any "fancy" blue in my stash, other than generic acrylic paint. Worked

like a charm to give this piece a touch of bold color!

Hello and welcome to my blog! Today I would love to share with you my latest mixed media canvas using my favorite Fall colors.

I made this project with two different challenges in mind; Creative Embellishments and Lindy's Stamp Gang.

I would love to enter both challenges every month but sometimes the colors aren't quite in my arsenal. For whatever reason, I still don't have a really good red from Lindy's or a deep blue. First world problems, right?!

I am especially proud of this project because I did not "lift" from anyone else. This is 100% out of my head. Now, countless hours spent watching others create certainly helped, and I do recommend that for anyone learning a new way of crafting. The supplies used are listed at the end of my post.

I touched up the entire project at the end with shimmery acrylic paint: ginger magic.

I am particularly fond of adding pebbles and stones to my canvases. 

It's such a simple and easy way to add texture.

I would have liked to use deeper colors on this project, but I chose to stick with what I had 

in my stash. Funny thing about budgets, right?

I did use several chipboard pieces by Creative Embellishments. They did get a little buried

underneath all the flowers and pinecones. That being said I have learned to build my

canvases with pieces that will get "buried" because it all adds to the final art.

Mixed Media Canvas: Choose To Shine

Hello there! Today I'm sharing with you my latest creation that I specifically made for Lindy's June challenge. I had so much fun getting rather messy putting this all together. This is my first time entering Lindy's challenges. I hope to make much more!!

Can you believe I started this with a paper towel?! Yep, the background is a paper towel covered in gesso. I probably won't do that again, but it was a good challenge trying to work with it.

This above is Lindy's June challenge color scheme. I don't have the exact colors in my stash so I used colors that, I hope, were closely matching.

I was greatly inspired by Ingrid's dream canvas from 2015.

I had a little goof up with using the right glue for the Finnabair Melange art pebbles. Live and learn, right??

What I love most about mixed media is getting messy with different textures. My scrapbook pages and cards are "neat and orderly", but this art style encourages you to abandon all that.

Here I'm showing you a close-up of the different art stones that I used. I did add dry brush gesso at the end to help make the colors "pop".

The white leaf stems are cut using my Sillouette. 

There is a chipboard heart by Creative Embellishments underneath the flower cluster. I did not intend to bury it so completely, but making a canvas really takes a life of it's own.

I recently bought Finnabair package of mixed media pastes, which included White Sand.

I'm very happy with how this turned out. I know I'm not really describing how I made it because it's all a blur to me. I do frequently watch videos and visit blogs of lots of mixed media artists. For now, my work is "simple" in comparison.
