ISBG: Authentic Gentleman

It's brand new kit time at International Scrapbook Garden!!!! Oh my . . . . I can't even begin to express all the happiness coming from this new toolshed kit 'Colorburst'!!

Thank goodness I recently went on a trip and took pictures that will go well with this kit. Cause that's why I go on trips . . . so I can scrapbook!! LOL!

Other than glue, dimensional paste and gesso, I only reached for one extra stamp from my own stash to make this page. I did use 13arts grained grit and microspheres from the previous toolshed kits on this page as well.

I love that International Scrapbook's kit designer used 49 & Market for much of this kit as well. I have never used their products before and it's love at first sight!!!!!!!

Thanks for stopping by today!!!!

I used black gesso on the creative embellishment pieces. I also reached for 13@rts Black Microspheres and Fine-Grained Grit from previous kits to add a little more texture.

I love the two stencil templates that come with the kits. They are such versatile shapes to be used on a variety of projects.

I first added Lindy's Flat Fabio C'estla vie Cerise as the base color. I then added Lindy's magical shaker Time Travel Teal twice for extra color burst. I followed all of that with a touch of Shimmerz Paste-eez 'Hold the Mustard'. All of these colors are provided in the kits.

Here you can see the many layers I added to the background for color and texture.

PDE Linky Party: Relax

Hello there! Today is a new challenge day at Pause Dream Enjoy!

Today's challenge is this photo for inspiration.

I know most of us would be thinking "mermaid" and "birthday". Let's just say I
don't have any "mermaids" in my life. Also, I seriously shy away from making actual
birthday cards . . . so I went a different way.

I decided to make this cute Doodlebug Designs' dolphin
for my card, purchased from the Silhouette online store.

Also, I was hugely inspired by this card found on Pinterest.
It's absolutely the cutest in it's simplicity.

Thanks for stopping by today!

ISBG: Take the Scenic Route

Good morning crafters!! I'm here today with a new layout using International
Scrapbook Garden's toolshed kit: Winter Adventures.

Did I mention how much I love this kit?! It's perfect for baby boy, school,
playing in the mud, and winter layouts of our boys (yes yes . . . even girls).

But honestly, girls get a lot of attention in the crafty world. *smirk*

I used SCAL4 to create a negative cut on the top page, distressed the edges,
then added the second layer behind it. Easy as pie!

Thanks for stopping by today!

I add stitching to nearly every layout. I love how it brings an
ordinary page to life!

I added layers of distressed scrap paper behind the photo.
This is a new look or "technique" for me and I love how it really
adds to the personality of a boy page.

Most of the cluster is from the kit. I added buttons, the
hash tag and thread from my stash. Oh, I added the stamped
date from my own stash too.

Supplies:

ISBG: Toolshed Kit: Winter Adventures Main kit
ISBG: Toolshed Kit: Winter Adventures Bonus Paper
ISBG: Toolshed Kit: Winter Adventures Embellishment Bonus

Extra:
Sewing and thread
Buttons
Wooden Hashtag
Stamped date

Scrap The Boys: Adventure Camp

Hello! Can you believe it's March already? It also means it's a new challenge over at Scrap The Boys challenge blog.

For this month, we are challenging you with a sketch provided by Laura Whitaker.

This sketch has all kinds of goodies and room for interpretation! I hope you play along this month. For me, I decided to use a different large shape, rather than the star. I purchased the campfire from an Etsy store called PureMerakiDesigns. I then hand-stitched the whole thing, which took about an hour.

You know those layouts that come together so quickly and just "flow". Yeah . . . this wasn't one of them. LOL! I know this layout doesn't look complicated, but my brain was having some serious roadblocks trying to put it together. Ever have one of those?

Once I decided on the campfire background, the rest of the layout finally came together . . . slowly. The paper is from an older line by Elle's Studio.

"Anyone who thinks the art of conversation is dead ought to tell a child to go to bed." Robert Gallagher (October Afternoon)

I used that quote on this layout cause it was quite the headache trying to get 11 boys to go to sleep at adventure camp. Let's just say "been there, done that . . . got the t-shirt".

ISBG: Love This Life

Hello again! Today I'm sharing with you a new page from International Scrapbook Garden
I used the toolshed kit Winter Adventures. This kit is so versatile for just about any boy page you want to make. It has a lovely mix of blue paper by Maja Design, snow, hearts, and other masculine touches. Seriously, this kit has it all!!

I dabble in two unique styles. One is using large die cuts on my pages while still incorporating negative space. The other is mixed media, which I have shown in previous blog posts. While mixed media is "new" to me, die cuts is my first love as I've been using them for years.

The hearts is a background die cut found on the Silhouette online store by Paige Evans. I then cut out a few hearts (using the same file) to make the background more interesting.

I tried very hard to stick to the kit. I did add a bit of lace from my stash,
as well as die cut leaves and thread. These just help make the cluster
a bit more "full" looking.

On my previous pages, I heat embossed the chipboard. I felt like the heart was
perfect for this page as it was.

ISBG: Mixed Media Winter Canvas

Hello and welcome! Today I would like to share with you my mixed media canvas using Lindy's Stamp gang limited edition January set of winter colors and many of the awesome embellishments found in the Winter Adventures kits.

This project is ALL about texture and color. I am a huge fan of Gabrielle Pollacco's work and this canvas is definitely inspired by her blog and videos. My media is nearly all sprays and textured paste. Soon, I hope to incorporate more types of mediums into my creativity.

The beginning:

I created the design using much of the embellishment and
main Winter Adventures kit.

I added a few extra elements such as buttons, lace and cheesecloth.
I did not end up using the large lace flower.

Shown here is everything covered in gesso, both individually and together.

Here it is before I added bling.

If you are making this kind of canvas, it really doesn't matter what
color everything starts out as if you are covering it all in gesso and
spray inks.

I did end up adding eyes to the wooden snowman.

Here is a close-up of the cluster in the upper left corner.

ISBG: Valentine Notecards for Boys

I recently watched a process video by Keren Tamir featuring Artist Trading cards. I thought, 'I can make this for my son for Valentine's day month'!

Our young men need encouragement and love the same as our young women.

I have been making notecards for my son for a couple years, but they have been "cute" in nature using die cuts and paper piecing as the main theme. Karen Tamir's video was a huge inspiration for me to use more of the first Toolshed kit at International Scrapbook Garden called Summer Concert.

I also made these notecards for this week's challenge at Pause Dream Enjoy . . . Valentine cards or treats!

Without further ado, here they are! Hope you like them!

I made enough to send my son one to school each school day until February 14th. My son is rather sentimental and has saved all his notecards from the previous years.

Thanks for stopping by today!

Scrap The Boys: Follow Your Dreams

Hello there!! Did I not tell you? I'm now part of the Scrap The Boys Design Team!!! Woot! There are going to be some fabulous challenges lined up for you this year so I hope you'll join me this season. Without further ado, here's the first challenge.

We had family photos taken this year for the first time in 7 years!!!!! Yikes . . . far too long. So bear with me this season as you may be seeing a lot of family photos type 'layouts' in the coming months. I was greatly inspired by this layout on Pinterest. I have been diving more and more into the world of mixed media. It's still a huge learning process and it takes time to build up a color stash. But I'm still very happy with how bright and playful this turned out.

I used a lot of die cuts and a few scraps of paper from Pinkfresh's
"Dream On" collection. The thread of circles is die cuts by Tim Holtz.

Stamps by Tim Holtz and Citrus Kits.

Supplies:

--Paper: Pinkfresh: Dream On collection
--Diecuts: Pinkfresh: Dream On collection
Tim Holtz dies and stamps
Stencils: Brick and Codes
Gelatos: Tangerine and Lemon
Modeling Paste mixed with color
Black acrylic paint
Citrus Twist phrase stamps
Date Stamp

ISBG: Be Authentic

Hello and welcome to my blog! Today I'm sharing with you a new layout using the Toolshed kit: Winter Adventures from International Scrapbook Garden.

This page is inspired by long perusals thru my Pinterest page. I liked several techniques by various artists and decided to try them on this layout. I admit I was rather nervous with how this was going to turn out. It's so rare for me to not follow a sketch or even to lift from another scrapper's page.

I will say I was greatly inspired by Sivan Amedi Shem-Tov.

The photo is of my former exchange student. He is an excellent young man and we still keep in contact with him to this day. But, he was still a 15 year old teenager at this time period. You know, it's freezing outside and snowing and he's checking his phone and has no gloves on. Then complained about it how his fingers were so cold. (insert eye-roll here)

Most of this layout is from the Winter Adventures kit and bonuses. The kits do not come with solid card stock so I did use kraft card stock from my stash. I also used Lindy's Stamp Gang embossing powders as well as my sewing machine!

Sometimes it's hard to know what title to use on a layout. Some crafters don't use any but that's not my style. I do tend to not journal on the front though. But lately I've been journaling on the back so family and friends will still know the story.

I used embossing powders Silver Moon Mistletoe and Cleopatra's Copper on the snowflakes. I lightly spritzed Kaiser Mists Denim available from the mixed media bonus kit.

I added the DecoArt Snow-Tex all over the flowers, and dabbed it across the layout for effect.
I used my rather old Fiskars paper crimper on my kraft card stock for extra texture.

The denim papers provided in the kit really "scream" sewing and stitching to me.
I did add some snowflake stenciling (provided in the bonus kit) using white Acrylic paint. I also distressed the papers with Prima Rose ink Branch Bark provided in the main kit.

PDE Challenges: Life is Good

Today is a new challenge at Pause Dream Enjoy. The theme is to use a "mouse".

The little critters at Treasure Box Designs make it so easy to put together
something quick for a card. I actually pieced this mouse together ages ago and
put it away for later use.

Thanks for stopping by today!
