Silhouette Challenges: Bloom Where You Are Planted

Hello!! Today I'm sharing with you my DT project with Silhouette Challenges.

I choose this flower pot cards by SnapDragonSnippets purchased from the Silhouette online store.

Although I love the idea of this card and it was really easy to make, it does not "stand up" well, even with the extra layering of paper to make the flowers more rigid. They are just too tall. Or perhaps the design of the pot needs to change to help give it more support? I'm not really sure.

All in all, it's still pretty.

Stuck?! Sketches: Cruise 2015

My two best friends and I went on our first cruise together last year. It was awesome in every way!!! So much so, that we repeated the experience this year in which I just got back!!!

Stuck?! Sketches: Live Laugh Love

Is it June already?? It's time for another reveal at Stuck?! Sketches.

It's been long overdue that I work on updating my wedding photos into "modern" layouts. Believe me, my original scrapbook pages were SO BAD.

Not even remotely close to what I make now.

Part of the wait was holding out for the right paper to come along. I did not want the typical black, white, gold and silver paper. My wedding colors were lavender and white so I wanted my page to reflect that.

Cards for Kids: You Rock!

Hey peeps!! If you been following along this week about my posts detailing "Cards for Kids" . . . THANK YOU!!

If you are new . . . I encourage you to look back at the last few posts for various ideas!

For these cards I used "blueprint dies" by My Favorite Things. I confess that these cards took more time than all the others I made. However, I still kept them simple by not using everything the blueprint dies provided.

I think the boys will love them anyway and that makes them worth it.

Cards for Kids:

The cards are for a camp for battered, abused and neglected children. The camp is called Royal Family Kids Camp, and you can check out the organization at www.royalfamilykids.org if you want to. These cards are for the Clayton County Georgia camp.
The kids are treated to a fun filled week, and are shown lots of love. It is a Christian based camp, but they are not preached to --our goal is just to love them with the love of Christ, and to give them a week to make wonderful memories and new friends, and feel safe and loved. The counselors and other staff members write notes to each camper and they are put in their slot in the camp mail box. THe neat part is that we have a Post Miistress, who logs in a book to make sure that each canper is receiving cards, and that they all get about the same number of cards. Everynight, before bed, you will find the campers sitting on their bunks, poring over their cards and you can see how much they mean to them. They can't believe that people who don't even know them, would take the time to make the cards for them. You will never now how much a simple card will mean to these kids. A really touching story is that a few years ago, we had a brother and sister who were once campers themselves, come back as couselor and praise team member- the camp meant so much to them that they want to be able to give back!

You know those sheets of stickers that come with a lot of various themed paper packs? Well, I know I don't use the whole sheet . . . do you?

Put those stickers to good use!!!!!

Cards for Kids: Anchor

It's a bit of a scavenger hunt both in stores and online to find inspiration for boy cards. I found this "anchor" die on sale at Hobby Lobby and knew it was perfect for this on-going project. 

I didn't make very many for this year but plan on making a bunch for next year.

I used nothing but scraps!!

HINT: You really don't need to use your best stuff for these. It's the thought that counts. I do try and make the cards look clean and well put together though.

Cards for Kids: Feathers and Color Blocking

Cards for Kids continued . . . 

I know it's been around for a while, but I recently discovered color blocking. I love this effect and I think the kids will too. 

#1. Use a really thin back ground paper (color doesn't matter) and glue entire thing. I really like using my 5" Xyron for this.

#2. Using several sheets of various colored paper (1/2 to 1 inch), lay them down evenly on the thin back ground paper. Make sure they are firmly attached.

#3. Pick a die. Any manual die cutting machine will work.

#4. Have your die laying perpendicular to the colored stripes to get the desired affect shown in the pictures.

Cards for Kids: Pinwheels

For the past couple years I have been making Cards For Kids (details below). We can make whatever we want, but they always have a need for cards for boys.

A few weeks ago, I really got my mojo going by finding inspiration on Pinterest which lead me to this blog full of easy card sketches.

I raided my scrap stash for all these cards. I will be blogging about each style separately over the next few days. I love putting my scraps to good use.

This style is the Pinwheel. I liked making this one cause I used not only scraps of patterned paper, but scraps of card stock I no longer use (or like) that I've been hanging onto.

TRICK: Don't go for complicated. These kids love whatever all the volunteers make. I know it also looks repetitive, but the camp needs over 3000 cards. Believe me, no one kid is going to get the same card twice. HAVE FUN!!!!!

Stuck?! Sketches: Monument of War

Hello and welcome! Today is reveal day for the second sketch of the month at "Stuck?!Sketches".

I confess, the sketch was difficult for me. No idea why - not in the mood for it? So I really went outside my normal stuff and did a layout about a place instead of people or time. Also, the layout is nearly made all from BoBunny - Anthem collection. Usually I mix it up a bit more than this but . . . "shrugs".

I also really struggled with the title. In the end, I did what came to me first.

The place is Fort Donelson and the monument recognizes the fallen Confederate soldiers of Tennessee during the American Civil War.
