Cards for Kids: Pinwheels

For the past couple years I have been making Cards For Kids (details below). We can make whatever we want, but they always have a need for cards for boys.

A few weeks ago, I really got my mojo going by finding inspiration on Pinterest which lead me to this blog full of easy card sketches.

I raided my scrap stash for all these cards. I will be blogging about each style separately over the next few days. I love putting my scraps to good use.

This style is the Pinwheel. I liked making this one cause I used not only scraps of patterned paper, but scraps of card stock I no longer use (or like) that I've been hanging onto.

TRICK: Don't go for complicated. These kids love whatever all the volunteers make. I know it also looks repetitive, but the camp needs over 3000 cards. Believe me, no one kid is going to get the same card twice. HAVE FUN!!!!!

Supplies:
A2 Cards: 4 x 5.5
Scraps . . . . all scraps.
I even put stickers to good use. . . . there will always be stickers.

Cards For Kids:
The cards are for a camp for battered, abused and neglected children. The camp is called Royal Family Kids Camp, and you can check out the organization at www.royalfamilykids.org if you want to. These cards are for the Clayton County Georgia camp.
The kids are treated to a fun filled week, and are shown lots of love. It is a Christian based camp, but they are not preached to --our goal is just to love them with the love of Christ, and to give them a week to make wonderful memories and new friends, and feel safe and loved. The counselors and other staff members write notes to each camper and they are put in their slot in the camp mail box. THe neat part is that we have a Post Miistress, who logs in a book to make sure that each canper is receiving cards, and that they all get about the same number of cards. Everynight, before bed, you will find the campers sitting on their bunks, poring over their cards and you can see how much they mean to them. They can't believe that people who don't even know them, would take the time to make the cards for them. You will never now how much a simple card will mean to these kids. A really touching story is that a few years ago, we had a brother and sister who were once campers themselves, come back as couselor and praise team member- the camp meant so much to them that they want to be able to give back!

Stuck?! Sketches: Monument of War

Hello and welcome! Today is reveal day for the second sketch of the month at "Stuck?!Sketches".

I confess, the sketch was difficult for me. No idea why - not in the mood for it? So I really went outside my normal stuff and did a layout about a place instead of people or time. Also, the layout is nearly made all from BoBunny - Anthem collection. Usually I mix it up a bit more than this but . . . "shrugs".

I also really struggled with the title. In the end, I did what came to me first.

The place is Fort Donelson and the monument recognizes the fallen Confederate soldiers of Tennessee during the American Civil War.

Christmas Traditions with many faces

Every year I try to get Christmas photos of my kid on Christmas eve. It's "tradition". LOL
My camera does not come out on Christmas morning. It's tooooo dark, and I want to be part of the fun, not behind a camera taking pictures.

Well, I don't usually get a relaxed face with an awesome smile. I end up with all kinds of faces. You understand how it is . . . and I only have one kid.

I used Scrapbook Challenge sketch #480. Although I am too late in submitting to their site.

I also made this for a National Scrapbook day challenge at Scrapbook.com.

Stuck?!Sketches: SKY

Hello there! It's time for a new sketch from Stuck?!Sketches.  Hope you are inspired by our fabulous sketch team's layouts and we look forward to seeing what you create.

I confess . . . I rarely make feminine layouts. Even more rare are layouts about my dogs. I have spent so much time and energy "perfecting" my boy layouts that making something girly is actually hard! "enter whiny moan here".

That being said, I have a beautiful golden retriever mix named Sky. You know she's mixed by her  small size and incredible blue eyes. Husky mix? All her shedding tells me she is anyway.

She wasn't always perfect. She has either Diabetes Insipidus or psychogenic need to drink a ton of water. The first one is very hard to diagnose in dogs. Either way, she drinks a lot and pees a lot. It took several months, and my brilliant plan to use clicker training, to finally get her to tell us how much she needed to go outside. Now she rarely has accidents but I firmly believe it's why she was a "stray" in the first place.

I've had people offer money for her. Her sweet disposition and well-trained manners make her a  wonderful and loving family pet. Of course, I declined those offers.

She's my sweet girl and I don't brag about her enough.

Hello everyone!!! Mother's day is coming soon and I love the awesome excuse to make a 3-D project, especially one that involves flowers.

This is a brand-new file by Dreaming Tree. Isn't it gorgeous??!!!!

Tips: If you are not new to 3-D paper making, you really don't need to watch the tutorial video. It was actually really easy cause it's rather simple boxes. However, the flowers will hog all your time. Inking and shaping them took me about an hour I think.

         As far as pinning the flowers to the styrofoam ball, start around the bottom and work your way up. The PDF file provided says they used Acrylic paint, which I assumed they painted the ball first. Instead, I used a tiny flower punch and extra pins to fill in the gaps. They look like little Hydrangea buds!!

KBD: When Life Gives You Lemons . . .

.... Drink Lemonade!!!!

Today I'm here to share my DT post featuring KBD.

Ok . . . so I tweaked this file a bit by sort-of taking creative liberties. Mainly cause my original cut caused me undue distress. I just couldn't handle not making my own eyes. I also took out the extra "lemon slices", the mouth and little pink tongue. I want to keep my cuts simple and dealing with little pieces gives me a headache.

For those of you that like the little pieces - ROCK ON! Just not me. So if the little pieces cause you to sweat too, don't be discouraged by the file. You can choose to not deal with them and STILL make KBD and her creator proud. Or any other svg site you choose to use.

I followed a sketch from MojoMonday.

I used the Shoptastic Cutie: Lemonade Pitcher. I had the perfect stamp to go with it that I had not yet used (up to this point).

I dabble in photography. I will take a lot of photos at once and then not pick up my camera for quite some time. It's a curse, really.

My dad showed up to my house wearing his brand-new, Texas style outfit AND in a good mood. He actually wanted me to take pictures of him. So everyone shoved us outside and I tried to "work" the magic. 

Tip: The photo was taken on a perfect, cloudy day. Yep, cloudy. Sunlight is evenly dispersed on cloudy days creating "perfect" light and NO shadows or overly bright skin. Cloudy days are fabulous for photography!!!

The layout actually came together really nicely. I love negative space so I didn't have to work my creative brain all that hard.

I really wanted to participate in a couple challenges this month. One from Scrapbook.com and the other being ScrapOurStash blog.  It's actually a really great blog and I don't participate nearly enough.

So for the ScrapOurStash challenge I was inspired by the clouds, "You", and the red and blue colors. The catch is to use 2 clouds on your layout.

For the Scrapbook.com April challenge, I had to use 2 pics, twine, "pop" something, circle(s), and a cutting machine (or punch or cuttlebug). I ended up using all three!!
