ISBG: Be Authentic

Hello and welcome to my blog! Today I'm sharing with you a new layout using the Toolshed kit: Winter Adventures from International Scrapbook Garden.

This page is inspired by long perusals thru my Pinterest page. I liked several techniques by various artists and decided to try them on this layout. I admit I was rather nervous with how this was going to turn out. It's so rare for me to not follow a sketch or even to lift from another scrapper's page.

I will say I was greatly inspired by Sivan Amedi Shem-Tov.

The photo is of my former exchange student. He is an excellent young man and we still keep in contact with him to this day. But, he was still a 15 year old teenager at this time period. You know, it's freezing outside and snowing and he's checking his phone and has no gloves on. Then complained about it how his fingers were so cold. (insert eye-roll here)

Most of this layout is from the Winter Adventures kit and bonuses. The kits do not come with solid card stock so I did use kraft card stock from my stash. I also used Lindy's Stamp Gang embossing powders as well as my sewing machine!

Sometimes it's hard to know what title to use on a layout. Some crafters don't use any but that's not my style. I do tend to not journal on the front though. But lately I've been journaling on the back so family and friends will still know the story.

I used embossing powders Silver Moon Mistletoe and Cleopatra's Copper on the snowflakes. I lightly spritzed Kaiser Mists Denim available from the mixed media bonus kit.

I added the DecoArt Snow-Tex all over the flowers, and dabbed it across the layout for effect.
I used my rather old Fiskars paper crimper on my kraft card stock for extra texture.

The denim papers provided in the kit really "scream" sewing and stitching to me.
I did add some snowflake stenciling (provided in the bonus kit) using white Acrylic paint. I also distressed the papers with Prima Rose ink Branch Bark provided in the main kit.

PDE Challenges: Life is Good

Today is a new challenge at Pause Dream Enjoy. The theme is to use a "mouse".

The little critters at Treasure Box Designs make it so easy to put together
something quick for a card. I actually pieced this mouse together ages ago and
put it away for later use.

Thanks for stopping by today!

ISBG: Backyard Boy

Hello there! It's new kit time at International Scrapbook Garden!!!!! The new toolshed kit is called Winter Adventures.

It very much has a blue jeans theme going on mixed with lots of shades of blues for winter layouts too.

For my first project I went with the "all boy in his jeans" layout. I wanted to make sure I used three specific items on this layout . . . the title, the square mat and the mica flakes. I did very little "mixed media" because I felt that with this paper it didn't need much.

The layout is of my son, on his 5th birthday. Daddy made a zipline across our huge yard and since most of the children were small, they all played on it during most of the party. Definitely a huge hit and my son still talks about that zipline and his birthday party to this day (he's now 11).

The title comes in the chipboard extras kit. I heat embossed with my
own colors using Lindy's embossing powders using Morning Glory Azure
and Desert Moon Copper Teal. I did use a very light touch of white Acrylic
paint on the stencil provided in the main kit.

The bark and journal board can be found in the embellishment
bonus kit. The mica flakes are in the mixed media bonus kit.

Blue jeans calls for stitching!! I purposely changed settings
on my machine to get that "messed up" look. The square
border is from the Silhouette Online store.

ISGB: Spells & Fortunes

Hello and welcome!!! Today I'm sharing with you another project using International Scrapbook Garden's Toolshed kit . . . The Spider's Web.

I think it's comical that we crafter's can use more supplies to make a card or tag than an actual scrapbook page. Do you?

For this tag, I really wanted to try and use the web stamp that comes in the main kit but I couldn't figure out how to make it "look good". Well, I've been watching a lot of mixed media tutorials lately and there is something I've forgotten about . . . embossing powders!!! Duh!

I hope this tag inspires you. Basically, just make a fun background and layer your embellishments. Piece of cake!

The theme is 'Anything Goes'.

never know what you might need them for.

Thankful (New Year)

Hello and welcome to my blog and 2018 . . . this is going to be a long post as I thank the many people and ideas that led to this project.

First, International Scrapbook Garden is a new kit club (in which I'm on the DT) and the owner has generously provided mixed media as part of her kits. I have been dabbling in mixed media and have felt it was time to really take the plunge! I have been watching a lot of videos lately.

Secondly, I completely fell in love with the YouTube canvas tutorial by Gabrielle Pollacco. My project is very much based on her work and am incredibly grateful that she makes videos. (Cause I really don't make videos).

Third, Christmas came. I had a package of goodies picked out by . . . me. Enough said.

Finally, I browsed around Scrapbook.com looking at alternate projects and came across Linsey Rickett who led me to The Mixed Media Monthly Challenge.

What better way to show off my mixed media project!? Everything about it is "new". New goodies, new technique (for me anyway), and in general a very new type of project for me.

The colors are Lindsey's Stamp Gang Starburst Sprays called
"Autumn Leaves".

On Gabrielle's video she used a LOT of chipboard from Dusty Attic.
Well, I have a Silhouette Cameo. So I bought the 110lb Kraft Card Stock
to use and files from the Silhouette online store.

Took about an hour to cut it all out, but cheaper for me.

The project is highlighted with Perfect Pearls Gold powder
mixed with a tiny amount of water. Love the effect!

I do already have a nice selection of stencils for creating
textured backgrounds.

THANK YOU FOR STOPPING BY TODAY!!
