One of the challenges of making die cuts like these is actually incorporating them into a layout without the die cut actually dominating the whole scene. For me, a scrapbook page should be about the photo(s). I like for you to see the "whole page", not just one particular feature.
The other challenge is using them in a way that I personally like to scrap . . . lots of negative space. I made this layout following Stuck?! September's 15th - 29th contest.
I also used Scrapping Bug Designs "Happy Fright Night" file. Since the sketch used multiple photos, I decided to have the crow and pumpkins be a part of that flow. They are the "third" photo, in other words.
And lastly, yes the background paper is not white. The color is actually "smoke", a very very light gray. I originally had a subdued patterned orange as my background but it felt like too much orange. Like it was reaching out and suffocating everything!!
